What Happens in a Spinning Workout Class?


In a spinning class, a row or several rows of exercise bikes, often identical and precisely lined up in a health studio or gym, face the front where the instructor has his own.  Riders take a bike each and when lights are turned down and music pumped up to fill the air with energy and speed, the instructor begins barking at the class, telling them when to star pedaling, when to change gear, when to stop, when to incline and promising them that the effects of the spinning workout are setting in when they feel they cannot pedal another cycle anymore.


A spinning class is a cardiovascular workout in a group.  One class typically lasts between 35 and 45 minutes but in it you can burn as much as 500 calories.  Most people don’t realize that spinning classes are this effective because they don’t get to try, but if you want to lose weight, get your sexy figure back, get stronger or gain greater muscle mass, then you have to experience what happens in the class.
Before you sign up for one, make it a point to read more about the spinning bikes and how they work, basic terms such as cadence or pedal rate, how to adjust the bike’s resistance and the importance of different body positions and which muscles will be worked.
